when my friend nick comes into my work (he's a courier, we run the mail room, among other things), he tends to write things on our white board calendar (mock dates and such). so, when he wrote 'no pants day' on the 16th of april, i wasn't phased and just wrote it off as, 'nick being nick' and eventually wiped it off the board after being asked by too many high profile architects what the significance was of such a date. needless to say, it then came as a shock today when one of the head interior designers at our firm came into our office and informed us that 'no pants day' is, in fact, may 1st. not april 16th.
that's right people. the day after tomorrow is, officially, 'no pants day'.

we discussed the logistics of this supposed 'no pants day' not at length, but enough to raise a few questions:

to be considered an official participant, does one actually have to go 'without pants'? what about a skirt? or shorts? what if you're british, and you call underwear 'pants'? what if you're in britain, do you change the name of the day to 'no trouser day'? or do you just go commando? are there in fact any restrictions at all? is this a 'celebrate at your own risk' day?

I did a little research and it seems that 'no pants day' has quite a history dating back to quite possibly, 1986. how have they kept this from us and does nick even know?
